Henleycraft Ltd was established in 1960 specifically to supply the leisure industry with goods such as boats and caravans.

Henleycraft designed and manufactured the first folding caravan, for which it held the patent. This caravan was predominantly made from Glass Reinforced Plastic (fibreglass). The use of GRP showed what great potential this new material had.

This project entailed the draughting of detailed drawings that were used to manufacture a wooden 'plug', from which a Fibreglass mould could be made. Components were then moulded to which the engine, gearbox and running gear were fitted, to produce a finished taxi.

These prototype taxis were the for runners to the now familiar 'Metro Cab'. The prototypes are still in existence today travelling around the country to vintage car and transport shows.

This lead to obtaining contracts in other fields of industry using GRP. In 1970 ship builders Cammell Laird approached Henleycraft to produce two prototype London Taxi cabs. A small wooden model was supplied as a basis for producing a complete fully functional taxi.

Having been established for over forty years Henleycraft Ltd has built up a wealth of experience in the manufacture of GRP mouldings. The application of techniques such as, Hand lay up, Vacuum GRP, Resin Transfer Moulding and Cold Press are used in production depending on customer specific requirements.

Since this time Henleycraft has supplied companies such as Ford Motor Company, Ransomes, Avon, and Land Rover, manufacturing for agricultural, commercial vehicle, domestic use, M.O.D. and general industry.

Our Sales team are often approached by companies and individules with ideas they wish to develop. Usually these are in the form of drawings but increasingly they are in CAD format. With facilities to handle 2D and 3D CAD files we are able to received drawings by email giving a fast turn around when raising quotations.

Having a dedicated workforce who are committed to quality and continual improvement they are often able to come up with new ideas benefiting the project in hand. With the ability to produce tooling in 24 hours with the advent of new techniques and materials we are able to respond to short lead times to get projects up and running quickly.
